Big ganja bust involving 'major player in the guns for drugs trade'
Detectives from the Narcotics Division arrested a man who has been described as a major player in the illegal guns for drugs trade, and seized just under 500 pounds of ganja during an operation in the Portmore area of the St Catherine South Police Division on Sunday.
According to the detectives, an anti-narcotics operation was carried out in the division, during which the driver of a Toyota Noah vehicle was signalled to stop at the intersection of the Lakes Pen road and Municipal Boulevard.
The driver of the vehicle complied, and during a search of the unit, nine knitted bags containing 43 parcels with compressed ganja weighing approximately 490 pounds, were found.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was arrested, while the vehicle and the ganja were seized.
The suspect is to be interviewed in the presence of his attorney before charges are laid against him.
The drug haul has an estimated street value of over $1.9 million.
