Ben Francis final called off after downpour with Charlemont 2-0 up

The final of the 2018 ISSA Ben Francis knockout competition between Petersfield High and Charlemont High at the Juici Field Complex in Clarendon on Friday was called off at halftime because of heavy rain.

Charlemont High had taken a 2-0 lead heading into the break and were on course to win their first title in schoolboy football when the rain intervened.

The game was threatened from the first half with drizzle, which soon turned into a downpour. However, the downpour didn’t last long to trouble the game in that period. However, during the break, the downpour returned and worsened the ground condition. Eventually, the referee had to call off the game.

Deron Wildman (13th minute) and Howard Baker (18th minute) scored the goals for Charlemont High in the space of five minutes.

The second half is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27.

The Ben Francis Cup has gone through a major change as the teams that finished third and fourth in the four respective daCosta Cup quarter-final groups got the chance to contest the competition. In former years, the top four daCosta Cup teams contest for the title.
