Bartlett to collect tourism award in India

"There is a little award also for yours truly but we won't talk about it. I want Jamaicans to be proud of Jamaica because the rest of the world are proud of us," the tourism minister argued.

"There is a little award also for yours truly but we won't talk about it. I want Jamaicans to be proud of Jamaica because the rest of the world are proud of us," the tourism minister argued.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett will journey to India to collect a Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) award.

According to Bartlett, Jamaica was selected by PATWA, a group from the Indian Tourism Authority, as the leading luxury destination in the western hemisphere.

"There is a little award also for yours truly but we won't talk about it. I want Jamaicans to be proud of Jamaica because the rest of the world are proud of us," the tourism minister argued.

"So CNN says we are the third coolest destination on earth. And Trip Advisor says we are the 24th out of 57 of the best and then also Kingston is the fourth coolest city in the world. All of these things are happening to us and we have gotten 23 awards from the World Travel Awards in almost all category of performance."

He was speaking Saturday night at the Secrets Hotel in Montego Bay at an awards function put in by NAJASO, which is celebrating four decades of existence.

NAJASO is an international non-profit umbrella association of Jamaican organisations.
