Bail extended for cop on fraud and corruption charges

The Manchester cop, Corporal Dave Dewar, who was charged with fraudulent conversion and attempting to pervert the course of justice, had his bail extended until June 8 when he appeared in the Manchester Parish Court on Thursday.

Dewar was recently charged following an investigation by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) after he was accused of using for his personal gain, more than $74,000 belonging to the complainant.

According to MOCA, in February this year, Dewar volunteered to retain an attorney for the complainant, who was being held in the Mandeville Police Station lock-up.

The complainant reportedly agreed, and gave instructions for the corporal to obtain $74,321 on his behalf and make contact with the attorney.

But Dewar reportedly collected the money and converted it to his own use.

MOCA has told the court that the police corporal has since tried to persuade the complainant to retract the report that he made about the matter.

A trial date is expected to be set when Dewar returns to court on June 8.
