Bad weather may have prevented ganja boat from leaving to Haiti

The St Thomas police have theorised that bad weather on Sunday may have prevented a boat from leaving Jamaica for Haiti as part of the illicit guns-for-drugs trade.

The delay caused by the weather reportedly led to the seizure of 851 pounds of ganja valued at over $2 million, plus the boat and 13 gallons of gasoline during an operation in the Holland Bay area of the parish.

One man was held in connection with the seizure. His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

According to the Morant Bay police, about 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, they conducted a search at a beach in Holland Bay, where the ganja, boat and gasoline were found hidden among mangroves in the area.

Investigations are ongoing into the find and seizure.
