Japanese runner captures Reggae Marathon

Daichi Okano of Japan outlasted the competition to win the Reggae Marathon in Negril on Sunday morning.
Okano, from his country’s Tottori Prefecture region, won the event in 2:47.17 hours to finish ahead of Jamaican duo, Gregory McKenzie, who covered the distance in 2:49.39, and Troy Pennington, who did 3:49.57.
Ann Viljugrein of Norway won the women’s section in a time of 3:29.09 hours, with second going to Celine Vandenbrouche of Belgium, who did 3:38.54 and third to Victoria Old of the United Kingdom with 3:49.57.
Meanwhile, Jamaica dominated the men’s section of the half marathon, with GC Foster’s Oshane Archibald winning the event in 1:13.21 hours. Kemar Leslie was second in 1:18.03 and Ryon Chambers third in 1:22.17.
Carlie Pipe of Barbados was the winner of the women’s half marathon, covering the course in 1:37.13 hours. Paulina Tautz of Germany was second in 1:38.57 and Arietta Martin of Jamaica third in 1:40.52.
GC Foster was also victorious in the men’s 10K, with Garfield Gordon winning in 31.42. Holmwood’s Samantha Pryce won the women’s equivalent in 41.03.
