Arson suspected as fire destroys 'foundation' business in Clarendon

Fire, believed to be the work of arsonists razed a section of a foundational business place along the main road through Swansea in Clarendon, leaving an estimated $5 million in damage on Saturday morning.

Reports are that about 3:30 a.m., the police and the fire brigade were summoned by passers-by who saw smoke coming from the Sweet 'n' Juicy building near Osbourne Store in Clarendon.

The May Pen Fire Brigade responded with one unit and six firefighters.

Upon their arrival, the firefighters extinguished the blaze which was seen coming from the centre of the building.

The Four Path police are investigating the incident along with the fire brigade.

There are unconfirmed reports that the business place was broken into, looted and then set on fire.
