Arnett come face to face with red-hot Portmore at Prison Oval

A big clash is expected at Prison Oval in Spanish on Sunday as the top two teams in the 2017-2018 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) will face off at 3:00 pm.

The day will feature Match Day 20 with five of the six matches. However, the focus will be at Prison Oval as Portmore United, the league leaders, will face defending champions Arnett Gardens, the team that defeated them for the title last season.

Portmore United enter the day with a four-point lead over second-place Arnett Gardens and this will be the second meeting between the teams this season.

The teams battled to a goalless draw on November 12 in the first round, also in Spanish Town.

A good game is expected between the two, but this time around all factors favour Portmore United for the victory.

The Shavar Thomas-coached team, which is playing at home, is rich in form. They have won six of their last seven games, have scored 39 goals - the most in the competition - have conceded only nine goals from 19 matches - the least in the competition and is blessed with the competition's leading goalscorer - Javan East, who has netted 11 times.

On the other hand, Arnett Gardens have not won a game since they recorded a 3-0 home victory against  Montego Bay United on December 14.

The champions have been finding it very hard as they have only gained four points from a maximum of 12 in their last four games, which all ended in draws. Two of the four draws came against the two teams in the relegation zone - promoted Sandals South Coast, which are second-from-the-bottom and bottom-place Boys' Town. Both games ended 1-1.

The day will also see third-place Tivoli Gardens in action. Tivoli (33 points), which are four points behind second-place Arnett (37 points) and eight behind leaders Portmore (41 points), will host struggling Harbour View (10th place) at the Edward Seaga Complex.

Harbour View (21 points) will enter the day six points above the relegation zone with head coach Ricardo Gardener under pressure to keep his job. They have been struggling from the start of the season and have lost three of their last five matches, compared to Tivoli, which have lost only once during that period.

Harbour View, though, are coming off a victory in midweek, but that should hardly lift their confidence considering that they struggled at home to beat bottom-place Boys' Town 1-0. On that day, Tivoli gained a good away result by drawing 0-0 with Arnett Gardens.

Based on form, Tivoli are expected to dominate the game.
