Title-chasing trainer Anthony Nunes has a lock on Wednesday’s Supreme Ventures Limited Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes with four of the seven runners declared – CORAZON, EARN YOUR STRIPES, SUPREME SOUL and UNIVERSAL BOSS – as he seeks to dethrone champion Wayne DaCosta, who leads him by $1.47m with two race meets remaining for the season.

DaCosta has two runners in the one-mile race, led by RUN THATCHER RUN, a Fearless Vision half-brother to the illustrious Horse of the Year SHE’S A MANEATER, who is also on the 11-race programme, facing Nunes’ BIGDADDYKOOL in the Miracle Man Cup at nine furlongs and 25 yards.

EARN YOUR STRIPES was beaten on debut by RUN THATCHER RUN in a five-and-a-half furlong sprint on December 1. However, Nunes’ colt showed inexperience and returned at seven furlongs a week later to win by a dozen lengths, clocking 1:25.3.

SUPREME SOUL, a Soul Warrior half-brother to BIGDADDYKOOL, made a mile look rather easy when brushing aside DaCosta’s EL GRINGO in the Andrew HB Aguilar, further strengthening Nunes’ hand.

Meanwhile, his unbeaten filly, CORAZON, strolled to a third straight to victory in the Pick-3 Super Challenge on November 24. However, the subsequent emergence of her stablemates - EARN YOUR STRIPES, SUPREME SOUL and UNIVERSAL BOSS – has dimmed her light somewhat.

Nunes’ go-to rider, Panamanian Dick Cardenas, has reportedly left the island to take up a contract in North America and will be replaced aboard EARN YOUR STRIPES by Robert Halledeen. Omar Walker is aboard RUN THATCHER RUN and SHE’S A MANEATER as DaCosta goes all out to win an 18th trainers’ title.

First post for the 11-race card is 11:15 a.m.
