Another shootout in upper St Andrew, after murder in Stony Hill
Only two days after a shootout between the police and gunmen along Constant Spring Road in upper St Andrew, another similar incident has taken place in the area, with a life being lost in this case.
Last night, marauding gunmen shot dead a security guard at a Chinese wholesale in Stony Hill and stole a car, before engaging in a high-speed chase and shootout with the police in sections of upper St Andrew between the hours of 8 and 9 pm. The dramatic events sent frightened residents and motorists scurrying for safety.
"Jah know, is like a scene from a movie. Shootout inna Manor Park inna early hours. When mi hear the first gunshots, mi thought it was clappas," said a resident of the area.
The Constabulary Communications Unit (CCU), the police’s information arm, confirmed the homicide and subsequent shootout.
”There was a homicide at a Chinese wholesale in Stony Hill. The motive behind the shooting is unclear at this point. The men stole a car, and the police officers were called and they trailed the gunmen and intercepted them along the Manor Park main road,” outlined a representative of the CCU.
“The men opened fire, the police returned (the) fire, and the men abandoned the vehicle.
“The police were able to recover one magazine with several rounds of ammunition and clothes belonging to the men as well," the CCU representative told Loop News reporter Claude Mills.
On Monday night, there had been a shootout between cops and armed men along Constant Spring Road in the vicinity of Immaculate Conception High School. Reports are that about 10.30 pm, a police team was on patrol when the driver of a brown Toyota Corolla car was signalled to stop, but disobeyed and sped off in the vehicle.
The police team reportedly pursued the vehicle, from which the occupants opened fire and traded bullets with the cops before the men then abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot in the area, resulting in the vehicle being seized.
The police are reported to be following several leads into the homicide and the other criminal acts.
