A man was shot and killed by gunmen in Denham Town, West Kingston on Tuesday night.

Denham Town was declared the second Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) across the island in October of last year, following Mount Salem in Montego Bay, St James being declared the first.

It was not the first murder in the normally highly volatile Denham Town community since it has been a ZOSO, although there has not been clarity about whether the killings took place within the strict barriers of the ZOSO.

Tuesday’s victim has been identified as 36-year-old Marcus Bailey.

Reports are that about 9:00 p.m., Bailey was among a group of persons when gunmen approached and shot him several times.

He died on the spot.

Denham Town has been noted gang warfare and resultant violence, which have, however, seen a significant downturn since the ZOSO was declared.

Notably, on Tuesday of this week, the House of Representatives approved extensions of the two ZOSOs for 60 days more.
