Another high-powered weapon seized in St James
Days after seizing an Uzi sub-machine gun in St James, the police say they have confiscated another high powered weapon in the parish.
Detectives assigned to the St. James Police Division say they have recovered two firearms, one of them an AK-47 rifle and several rounds of ammunition during their latest set of operations in the violent plague parish on Friday.
Police said in the first operation, a team of officers went to Middle Road in Dallas, Glendevon where they observed a group of men standing in an open lot behaving in a manner that aroused their suspicion.
Police said the men ran and escaped in the area. A search of the open lot was subsequently conducted and one black 9mm pistol containing four 9mm rounds of ammunition was found.
About two hours later, another team of officers seized one AK-47 Rifle along with a magazine containing nine 7.62 rounds of ammunition on Sunflower Crescent in Norwood, St James.
Information received is that during the search of a premises the lawmen saw a white plastic bag along the side of an unfinished concrete structure. It was retrieved, searched and found to contain the firearm and ammunition.
No one was arrested in connection with these seizures.
On Wednesday police seized an Uzi sub-machine gun and over fifty 9mm rounds of ammunition during an operation in Rose Heights section of the parish. No arrests were reported.
