Two men were shot, one fatally, by gunmen in Maverley, St Andrew late Monday.

The deceased has not yet been identified.

Police reports are that about 9:30 pm, a group of people was at a bar along Westmain Drive when a motor car approached and men occupying the vehicle opened fire on the group.

The attackers then made good their escape from the area while two men were left suffering from gunshot wounds.

The injured men were rushed to hospital where one man succumbed to his injuries. The other man remains in hospital in serious condition.

It was just the latest murder in and around Maverley over the last several days.

Earlier Monday, close to midday, along the nearby Elma Crescent, a mechanic was attacked and gunned down.

"These set of incidents have once again placed the community on edge and we are calling on the authorities to put things in place to clamp down on the escalation of crime in the area," one resident told Loop News.

Police sources report that since the start of the year, around 14 persons have been killed in the community.
