Ann-Marie Vaz’ grandmother Eva May Wright passes on at 99

Eva May Wright the grandmother of East Portland Member of Parliament, Ann Marie Vaz has died. 

Wright died on Sunday. She was 99-years-old.

Wright came to national prominence during Vaz’ successful by-election campaign for the Eastern Portland seat left vacant after the murder of sitting Member of Parliament, Dr Lyndale Bloomfield.

Wright was featured in a political advertisement where she praised her granddaughter's love for people.

Vaz won the seat by defeating Damion Crawford of the People’s National party and in the process gave the Jamaica Labour Party a two seat majority in the House of Representatives. The JLP had not won in Eastern Portland since 1980.
