Amid corona, shootings, deaths across St Andrew South division
Amid the corona virus (COVID-19) threat and restrictions locally, six persons were shot, three fatally, in separate shooting incidents in and around the St Andrew South Police Division over a 36-hour period starting on Monday
In the first incident, a man was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Chesterfield Drive on Monday, March 23.
He has been identified as 21-year-old Romel Sutherland of Majesty Gardens in St Andrew.
Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 5.15 pm, Sutherland was walking along the roadway when gunmen exited a motorcar and opened fire, hitting him several times.
The police were summoned and Sutherland was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In another incident on Monday, this time on Alexander Road off Maxfield Avenue, three persons were shot and injured.
Reports are that around 8pm, several explosions were heard in the area, and when checks were made, three persons were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
In another incident, a man was shot and killed on Spanish Town Road.
Detectives from the Hunts Bay Police Station say they are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the man who was shot and killed by gunmen.
The police said the deceased appears to be in his 20s, sported a cornrow hairstyle, is of dark complexion, slim build, and about 173 centimetres (five feet eight inches) tall.
The body, which was found in the area, was clad in a blue denim jacket and blue jeans, with a red, green and gold belt.
Reports are that about 7pm, residents heard explosions and alerted the police.
On their arrival, the police found the man lying on his back in a pool of blood, with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The shootings continued in Ferry district, where 66-year-old Gladstone Campbell, a shopkeeper, was shot dead by unknown assailants.
Detectives from the Duhaney Park Police Station reported that about 9.45 pm, residents heard explosions and went to investigate. They found Campbell in his house lying face down with several gunshot wounds.
The police were alerted and on their arrival, the crime scene was processed and the body was taken to the morgue.
Investigations are continuing into the development.
