An American man who was on his way to Jamaica is facing drug charges after allegedly trying to pass through security at Philadelphia International Airport with 42 bags of heroin.

The suspect was reportedly preparing to board an American Airlines flight to Montego Bay, St James earlier this week.

Authorities say Augustine Passanante, from Pennsylvania, was at the checkpoint when the body scanner detected something unusual.

Agents reportedly found him in possession of the 42 bags of heroin and a vial of methamphetamine.

He was taken into police custody and is now booked for a preliminary hearing on July 2.
