Since the incident, a voice note and photos related to the development have been circulating on social media. The photos include bottles of liquid which the accused man was said to have used to subdue females after pouring the contents on a handkerchief.
In declaring it a falsehood that the man had tried to abduct a woman, a senior police officer in the parish said the now accused man was instead taken into custody on suspicion of practising obeah because he was found with containers of various oils, which have been deemed to be obeah paraphernalia.
Under Jamaican laws, obeah is illegal, and the subject recently took on much significance after National Security Minister, Robert Montague, seemingly jokingly stated that he has an uncle who is an obeah man.
