All in place for Sagicor Sigma Run on Sunday

Organisers of the 21st staging of the Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run have announced that all is in place for the Caribbean’s largest road race on Sunday, February 17 in New Kingston.

A record-breaking 27,028 registrants are set to run, walk and wheel to the finish line in the 5K which has a goal of raising $52 million for three charitable causes. This surpasses the registration target of 25,000 as well as the 26,519 registered for 2018.

Sigma Run Team Lead and Assistant Vice President of Sagicor Group Marketing, Alysia White, expressed excitement for the kickoff of another monumental staging.

“Planning Sigma Run is not an easy feat - it is a mammoth execution - but we do it every year because of the far-reaching impact it has for the beneficiaries we assist and the many lives they touch”, she said. She also added that it gives such much joy to see the excited and happy faces in the crowd on race day. “We love that so many persons come out to support us while having fun, they are giving back to great and worthy causes”, White added.

The 2019 Sigma Run beneficiaries are the Lupus Foundation of Jamaica, the Diabetes Association of Jamaica and the May Pen Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

A pre-race warm-up will take place inside Emancipation Park lead by fitness instructor Karelle Ashley, starting at 6:30 a.m. The wheelchair and run categories have been set for 7:30 a.m. and 7:35 a.m. respectively, while the walk segment will begin approximately 15 minutes after. Popular comedian Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley, will this year take the start line stage to kick off the annual race.

Roads utilized for the race will close at 6:30 a.m.; entrants are asked to arrive in New Kingston well before the race start time.

Hydration stations, ambulances, medical stations and essential emergency personnel will be strategically positioned along the race route. An emergency number of 876-351-6956 has also been provided on the bibs of all participants.

Race marshals and security officials will also be on hand to ensure the safety of attendees, and traffic officials will be onsite to assist with parking in the designated areas.
