Jamaica’s swimming sensation, Olympian Alia Atkinson, continued to show fine early season form as she chalked up two more medals during the Beijing leg of the 2020 FINA Championship Series.

Atkinson is using the various meets as part of her preparation for the Tokyo Olympics.

On day one of the two-day meet on Saturday, Atkinson won the silver medal in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 30.44. This represents her fastest time in January over the distance. It was also a significant time drop from the last leg of the FINA Series in Shenzhen where she stopped the clock in 30.63. U.S. Olympian, Molly Hannis won the gold in 30.34 while Italian Olympian, Martina Carraro, copped the bronze in 30.79.

In the 100m breaststroke on Sunday, Atkinson also won the bronze medal in a time of 1:08.88. The swim represents her fourth fastest time at this time of the season. China’s Yu Jingyao, an Olympian, took the race in 1:07.18. Italy’s Carraro won the silver in 1:07.25.

Atkinson has now won three bronze medals and one silver medal during the Series.

She is the only Caribbean swimmer to have won medals in the event in both the long course and short course FINA World Championship Series including her world record swim of 28.56.
