Alia wins second medal at World Swimming Championships

Alia Atkinson won her second medal at the 2018 FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships in China on Friday when she finished third in the 100-metre individual medley.
The Jamaican swimming sensation touched the wall in 58.11 seconds for the bronze medal, two days after she claimed gold in the 50-metre breaststroke.
Atkinson, who celebrated her 30th birthday on Tuesday, finished behind gold medal winner Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who clocked in 57.26 and Japan’s Runa Imai, who clocked57.85 for second place and the silver medal.
Atkinson will be attempting to win a third medal when she swims in the 100-metre breaststroke, an event in which the Jamaican twice equaled the world record of 1:02.36 set by Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutyte in 2013.
Atkinson has the fastest qualifying time going into the final, which is scheduled for Saturday.
The Jamaican won her semi-final heat in 1:04.07.
Australian Jessica Hansen has the second-fastest qualifying time of 1:04.11.
