Alia strikes another gold at World Swimming Championships

World record holder Alia Atkinson added the 100m breaststroke title to the 50m breaststroke gold medal on day five of the 2018 FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships in Hangzhou, China on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Jamaican won in a time of 1:03.51 and was followed home by American Katie Meili(1:03.63) and Australian  and Jessica Hansen (1:04.61).

Atkinson holds the world record of 1:02.36 set in 2014 when she became the first black woman to win a world title. She also owns the fastest time in the world this year – 1:02.80 – set in Budapest in October.

Atkinson also has a bronze medal from the 100m individual medley on Friday.
