The state of public emergency now on in St James recorded another success on Monday morning, with the seizure of an AK-47 rifle and a handgun during a joint police/military operation in Flanker in Montego Bay.

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) reported that in addition to the rifle, a Glock pistol, two magazines and several rounds of ammunition were found in the ‘Rifle Lane’ section of Flanker.

The seizure brought to four, the number of illegal guns that have been taken in by the security forces since the state of emergency was declared last Thursday.

The find in Flanker come on the heels of Thursday's seizure of a Kalashnikov rifle and six live rounds in the same community.

Another weapon was seized at the scene of the shooting of five persons, one fatally, at a funeral service in the Quarry community on Saturday.

The weapon which was found on Thursday is theorised to have featured in a brazen murder on Sunset Boulevard near the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, recently.

"That weapon is to undergo ballistic and forensic testing to determine its history,” JDF Colonel Daniel Pryce told a press briefing at the JDF's Burke Barracks in Montego Bay on Saturday.
