AFRICAN QUEEN: Lupita Nyong’o shines in new Vogue cover shoot

The stunning actress dazzles in vibrant prints against breathtaking landscapes in her native Kenya.

As her new movie, Queen of Katwe, premieres in cinemas this month, Lupita Nyong’o is also on the cover of the October issue of VOGUE.

It’s her third time on the cover of the renowned fashion publication, and this time she gives special insight into her homeland and her passion for creating opportunities for others like her.

“Being able to use my platform to expand and diversify the African voice,” Lupita told VOGUE, “I feel very passionate about that. It feels intentional, meaningful.”

She later added, “There are certain cards that have been dealt me that I take on. I want to create opportunities for other people of colour because I’m fortunate enough to have a platform to do that."

Queen of Katwe is the true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.
