Over 280 young individuals converged at the Jamaica Conference Centre on Saturday to learn life skills at the Adulting101 Conference, which was staged by Transforming Inspirational Minds (TIM) Limited.

According to TIM’s CEO, Damani Brown, the event was an initiative to educate young people - from 18 to 30 -  about transitioning into adulthood.

The participants received knowledge from experienced personnel in a structured way.

Among the topics discussed were investment, money management, interviews skills, resume writing, nutrition, physical and spiritual well-being, managing personal brands and dealing with relationships.

Among the speakers were Mischa McLeod-Hinds, assistant vice president for capital markets at Sagicor; Nigel Holness, managing director at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank; international life coach Selecia Williams; and functional medicine specialist Dr George Scarlett.

Brown said, “Adulting101 is a holistic programme that allowed them to face the realities of day-to-day life and face hurdles that most people don’t get over until they are in their 30s.

“For me, it was good to see how much something like this is needed and how many lives were impacted. I found that patrons were very appreciative of the content. They found it to be informative, practical and simple and easy to understand,” he said.

Brown believes patrons left the conference empowered with the incorporation of technology enhancing the experience.

A survey done after the conference indicated that the content was well received by the participants at the all-inclusive event. The patrons received handouts, resume kit, an investment voucher from Sagicor Investment, a 50 per cent discount on an interview session and a visit to a selected health clinic.

The lead sponsors for the vent were Loop News, Best Dressed Chicken, Product Resource Systems (PRS), The Gleaner, JPS Foundation, Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) and Heart Trust.
