Ackera Nugent wins Jamaica's first medal at Pan Am Juniors

Excelsior High's Ackera Nugent secured Jamaica's first medal at the 20th Pan American Under-20  Athletics Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica on Friday with a silver medal in the women's 100m hurdles.

The talented Nugent competing on the opening day of competition clocked 13.37 seconds for second place, while her Jamaican teammate Crystal Morrison of St Jago High just missed the bronze medal with a fourth-place finish in 13.44.

American Jasmine Jones easily won the gold medal in a time of 13.20 seconds. Micaela Rosa De Mello of Brazil finished third for the bronze medal in 13.41.

There was another early medal for Jamaica on the day with Akeem Cargill taking bronze in the boys' 110m hurdles.

The Kingston College student clocked 13.56 seconds to finish third behind the American pair of Eric Edwards Jr (13.11) and Tai Brown (13.36).
