950 lbs of ganja seized in Portland; 2nd drug find there last week

A police-led operation resulted in the seizure of 950 pounds of ganja in Norwich, Portland on Friday.

It was the second ganja seizure in the parish last week, following Wednesday's seizure of 300 pounds of the weed at White River district.

In Friday's seizure, the Port Antonio police reported that about 1:00 p.m., lawmen were in Norwich, when a premises was searched.

Fifteen bags containing 950 pounds of ganja were seen inside a one-bedroom board dwelling.

The illicit drug, which the police said has an estimated street value of $4.7 million, was subsequently seized.

No one was arrested in relation to the seizure.

Further investigations are ongoing by the Portland police.

Meanwhile, the police also made no arrest in relation to the 300 pounds of ganja that was seized in White River in the parish two days earlier.

Reports were that about 3:20 p.m., officers were processing a crime scene in the area when they observed six garbage bags containing ganja under a tree on an open lot.

The ganja had an estimated street value of $1.2 million, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) said.
