$8 million ganja bust in St Elizabeth; suspect taken into custody

A team of officers assigned to the Narcotics Police Division in St Elizabeth seized approximately 2,000 pounds of compressed ganja during an operation on the Hall main road in Barbary Hall district in the parish on Monday, January 28.

A man was taken into custody in relation to the seizure.

Reports are that about 7:00 p.m., the police team was in the area when the driver of a Toyota Coaster bus was signalled to stop.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the bus at the time, complied with the directive.

The bus was searched and 38 knitted bags containing rectangular parcels with what appeared to be compressed ganja were found inside the vehicle.

The illicit drug has an estimated street value of $8 million.

The identity of the suspect has been withheld pending further investigations by the police.
