7 local-based players in Reggae Boyz starting 11 to face Ecuador
Seven local-based players have been drafted into Jamaica's starting 11 for the training match against Ecuador inside New York Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey on Friday.
Match time is 8:00 pm (7:00 pm Jamaica time).
The local-based players in the starting 11 are Ladale Richie, Ricardo Thomas, Fabion McCarthy, Tevin Shaw, Ricardo Morris, Peter Lee Vassell and Owayne Gordon.
Defender Michael Hector, who recently moved to Sheffield Wednesday from Chelsea on loan; goalkeeper Amal Knight, Kevon Lambert and Owayne Gordon complete the team.
The Reggae Boyz are using the game to prepare for the qualifying phase of the inaugural Concacaf Nations League where they will play their opening game against the Cayman Islands inside the National Stadium in Kingston on Sunday.
This will be the fourth meeting between the teams in friendly internationals, with the South American country holding winning two and drawing the other.
The teams first met in 1996 with Ecuador winning 2-1 at home. The teams then battled to a 0-0 result in the USA in 2009 and Ecuador won 5-2 in the high altitude of Quito in 2011.
Ecuador, which competed in Group E of the 2014 FIFA World Cup with France, Switzerland, and Honduras, are coached by Hernán Darío Gómez.
Jamaica, a back-to-back Concacaf Gold Cup runner-up, is coached by Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore.
Following the opening Concacaf Nations League fixture against Cayman Islands on Sunday, Jamaica - the Caribbean number one team on the new Concacaf ranking index - will fly to Bonaire for a meeting with the tiny island on October 14, and are home to Suriname on November 17.
Jamaica will close out the Nations League qualifying play-offs with an away meeting with Central American outfit El Salvador on March 23, 2019.
