Seven held after M16 rifle, pistols seized in the Corporate Area

Within a span of less than an hour on Tuesday, the police and military, in two separate operations, seized three illegal firearms, including an M16 rifle, in the Corporate Area.

In the first case, the Hunts Bay police in the St Andrew South division that is under a state of emergency, seized a Lugar Highpoint 9mm pistol, along with eight 9mm rounds of ammunition, on York Avenue in St Andrew.

Reports are that about 11:15 a.m., law enforcers conducted an operation in the area, where several premises were searched and the seizure was made.

No one was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

Investigations continue into the find.

Less than an hour later, police officers assigned to the enhanced security measures, along with members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), arrested seven persons and seized an M16 rifle, a pistol and five rounds of ammunition during a joint police/military operation on Rousseau Road in the Kingston 13 area.

Reports are that about 12:10 p.m., during a search of a house, the M16 rifle with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition, along with a 9mm CZEE pistol, were seized.

The identities of the persons who were taken into custody are being withheld, pending further investigations by the police.
