55-year-old man charged with stabbing/chopping death in Mandeville

Detectives assigned to the Manchester Police Division have arrested and charged 55-year-old Elvis Sergeant, otherwise called ‘Spider’, of Meadstone district, Manchester with the murder of a 38-year-old man.

Jermaine Chin, otherwise called ‘Indian’, of Balvenie Heights, Mandeville, Manchester, was chopped and stabbed to death on Sunday, October 27 in the parish.

Reports are that about 5.45 am, Chin was standing in the vicinity of Mandeville Plaza, when he was attacked by Sergeant and another man with a machete.

Chin was chopped and stabbed several times.

The police were summoned and Chin was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sergeant was later held during an operation, and was subsequently interviewed and charged.

His court date is to be announced at a later date.
