Scores of shortlisted micro and small business applicants turned out recently to make their business pitch at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel at a forum hosted by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), Integrated Community Development Project under its initiative entitled “ICDP Enterprise Development Project”.

This was in response to a Call For Proposals held between March and April 2018 to facilitate a special entrepreneurial grant valued at $100,000 million.

At the end of the selection process, 50 successful entrepreneurs across the various ICDP communities, in the parishes of St James, Clarendon, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, St Ann and Westmoreland will benefit from non-cash grant support ranging from $1.5 million to $5 million which will enable them to access meaningful support for their businesses such as: machinery, permits and licenses as well as comprehensive training in the area of business development.

According to Mona Sue-Ho, Social Development Manager at JSIF, the Call For Proposals was overwhelming and attracted approximately 500 applicants of which, 100 were shortlisted to make their business pitch before an evaluation panel comprised of representatives from the Jamaica Social Investment Fund, UWI Mona, JN Small Business Loans, the Leap Company and the Development Bank Of Jamaica.

The business categories included; agriculture, beauty supplies, videography service, photography service, graphic designs, handcrafts, furniture and upholstery, grocery stores, restaurants and catering, food preservation and non-government organisations.

Thereafter, a formal function will be held by the JSIF in August 2018 to announce the 50 persons who will be eligible for the entrepreneurial funding support.
