The disclosure was made by Acting Police Commissioner, Novelette Grant, in a press briefing that is now underway at the police commissioner's office in Kingston.

The murder figure is 52 per cent more than the 23 persons killed over the corresponding period last year.

Grant, in her first address since taking up the post following the retirement of Carl Williams, has vowed that she will be taking a no-nonsense approaching to tackling crime.

She has also vowed to implement more programmes to boost the morale of members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force as well as implement systems that ensure a greater level of accountability.
