2 Jamaican boxers qualify for Pam Am Games

Two Jamaican boxers, super heavyweight Ricardo Brown and lightweight Shiloh Defreitas, have qualified for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, from July 2 to August 11. They did so at the qualifying tournament that was held in Managua, Nicaragua from April 2-11.

A four-man Jamaican team took part in the qualifying tournament in Nicaragua.

Team manager Leroy Brown was disappointed that welterweight boxer Joshua Frazer did not qualify despite good performances in the qualifiers.  Frazer defeated Costa Rican Abraham Mora in two rounds and then stopped Carl Hield of the Bahamas on points. However, he lost the third bout to eventual silver medal winner Gabriel Maestre from Venezuela and just missed out on qualifying.

Jamaica's other boxer, Ian Darby bowed out early after losing his first bout against Mexican Rogelio Romero.
