The Montego Bay police in St James are probing the reported theft of a cache of firearms and ammunition from a security company in the parish on Saturday.

Police sources have confirmed the loss of some 19 guns and a quantity of ammunition from the company’s office, which was reportedly broken into by unknown individuals.

The parish of St James is currently under a state of public emergency.

A state of public emergency was declared in the western parishes of Westmoreland, Hanover and St James on April 30 of this year. This followed a spate of killings in the three parishes, with the gun being by far the weapon of choice.

Further updates are anticipated in relation to the major gun theft.
