17-year sentence for St Cartherine man on carnal abuse conviction

A man from St Catherine has been sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment for carnal abuse and indecent assault on a girl, who was only nine years old at the time of the offences.

David Walters, 30 of Ewarton in the parish was sentenced by High Court judge Carolyn Tie on Friday.

Walters, who had a previous conviction was given 14 years for carnal abuse and three years for indecent assault. The sentences will run concurrently.

His co-accused, Jodian Lindo, was sentenced to three year in prison for aiding and abetting carnal abuse and indecent assault.

Walters and Lindo were found guilty in the St Catherine Circuit Court on March 29.

The evidence before the court was that in 2009, the complainant went to visit Lindo, who took her to Walters for him to engage in sex with her.

A report was later made to the Ewarton police, and after an investigation, Walters and Lindo were both charged with five counts of carnal abuse and indecent assault.
