15-year-old girl dies from 'friendly fire' in Seaview Gardens

A 15-year-old girl died from a gunshot wound which she sustained in Seaview Gardens, St Andrew on Saturday.

She has been identified as Olivia Gonzales.

Reports are that about 9:05 p.m., the student of Tarrant High School was in her community with a group of friends, one of whom was reportedly handling an illegal gun, when the weapon went off, hitting the teen.

No one else was injured.

The teen was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Both the gun and the person who had it in his possession at the time of the incident have been missing since the tragedy.

The killing comes several months after another teen, 16-year-old Denise Hume, who attended Jose Marti High School in Spanish Town, St Catherine, was reportedly shot and killed in the same community by a bus conductor.

Police reported then that the suspect, Amar Fairweather, otherwise called ‘Lolliman’, also of Seaview Gardens, allegedly shot and killed Hume on December 21, 2017, after the teen told him that she was ending a sexual relationship that they had.

Reports indicated that the teenager was shot in the head after an enraged Fairweather left her home and returned. Upon his return, an explosion was heard and Fairweather was reportedly seen running from the premises.

Hume was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Fairweather remains at large, despite the police having launched a manhunt for him.
