12 gauge shotgun, bullet proof vests seized in St James

Members of a joint police/ military team seized a shotgun and two bullet proof vests among other items during an operation in St James on Monday.

Reports are that, at about 2:45 pm, members of the security forces went to an unoccupied building in Adelphi where they conducted a search.

During the search a 12-gauge shotgun, two bullet proof vest and an extension 9mm magazine were found.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.

St James has been under a state of public emergency since Thursday, January 18 following a wave of murders. Last year the parish recorded an unprecedented 335 murders.

Since the declaration of the public emergency, which is now dubbed 'enhanced security measures', only two murders have been recorded in the parish.
